Guitar Hero Live Announced

This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

After a multi-year lull, music game are about to make a huge comeback in 2015. Of course, Rock Band 4 was previously announced, but today it got a little competition with the reveal of Guitar Hero Live. Taking a slightly different approach to the genre, Guitar Hero Live brings back the storied franchise in a new way, offering players two different ways to live out their rockstar dreams. Colored buttons seem to be out, with alternating black and white buttons taking their place. It also shifts the player’s perspective into first-person, hopefully making for a more immersive experience.

Guitar Hero Live. One Game. Two ways to play.

The two modes are GH Live and GHTV. The former puts you in the shoes of a rockstar, on stage in front of thousands of people. The real crowd will react to your actions appropriately, so if you screw up the song they’ll begin to get angry, but if you do well the crowd will get excited. GHTV feels like the more classic approach to Guitar Hero, allowing the player to rock to various music videos within Guitar Hero Live.

Unfortunately, the shift in the gameplay, moving away from the colored buttons of the past, means that previous instruments will not be usable within Guitar Hero Live. You’ll need to get the new guitar to play the game, making for a slightly steeper investment than many players were hoping for with a Guitar Hero return.

Guitar Hero Live will be coming to PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Wii U in Fall 2015.
