GWENT: The Witcher Card Game’s First Expansion Crimson Curse Launches March 28

CD Projekt Red has announced that their Witcher spin off series, GWENT: The Witcher Card Game, will be receiving it’s first official expansion, and it’s coming this month. Titled the Crimson Curse, the expansion will have ties to the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s popular expansion, Blood and Wine, and will feature Dettlaff van der Eretein, one of the main vampire characters from the game.  On top of that, the expansion will have 100 brand new cards to play with.

GWENT was first introduced to players in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt as a game within a game for major side-quests and other plot lines. While some players loved the single-based card game, others were a little spiffed that they had to learn an entire game in addition to the mechanics of Wild Hunt. CD Projekt Red decided that the fans who loved the game would outweigh the detractors and released it as a free-to-play standalone game in October of last year.

Competing directly with the likes of Blizzards Hearthstone made this seem like a poor choice, especially since Hearthstone got a huge a head start in the market, releasing in early 2014. However, GWENT has one advantage over Hearthstone, in addition to being on the PC, it’s also available on the PS4 and Xbox One, giving CD Projekt Red access to a wider audience. GWENT has done fairly well since it was released, and fans of the game will have much more to look forward to with this new expansion.

GWENT: Crimson Curse will launch on March 28 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. You can check out the reveal trailer here:
