Forge, the mode that allows players to craft their own Halo levels, has become a bigger part of the Halo experience since it was introduced in the third game. With Halo 5: Guardians coming out on October 27th, fans have been waiting to see what new innovations 343 Industries has in store for the fan-favorite mode. Today they have lifted the veil on Halo 5’s brand new Forge, and it looks pretty intense.
Built from the ground up for Halo 5: Guardians, the new Forge mode incorporates community requested features like never before. “For Halo 5: Guardians, we knew we wanted to take a giant leap forward with Forge. The creativity of the Forge community knows no bounds and our goal was to give them more power and control than ever before. We wanted to remove as many constraints as possible so they can create high quality maps that rival the ones that we are shipping with the game.”
In order to facilitate this goal, 343 invited some of the best Forge map makers in the world to their studio to help out, and take a look at what they had so far. “Last month, we brought a group of five Community Cartographers (Forgers) to the studio to spend time with the Forge team and get hands-on with the new tools. Over the course of a week, each cartographer worked on a new map. It was amazing to see how much they were able to accomplish in such a short amount of time. Throughout their visit, the cartographers provided feedback and feature requests that were then turned around in nightly updates from the Forge team.”
While the game is coming out this month, on October 27th to be specific, Forge requires a bit more work to get ready. It will arrive in December as a free update to the game. For the full overview, check out the video below, and click here to see all the new features added for the latest game.
