Last year, it was revealed that a Harry Potter RPG for mobile devices was on its way in 2018. Today (January 18), we get our first real look at the game, entitled Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, through its first official trailer.
In the game, players will create their own witch or wizard avatar and attend Hogwarts. They will then be sorted into a House, attend classes, learn magic and make friends and enemies. The trailer puts an emphasis on the importance of choice, starting off by quoting Dumbledore himself: “It is not our abilities that show what we truly are; it is our choices.” Furthermore, the game will change in that the main story arc may differ and what characters you become friends or enemies with will be determined by the choices each player makes in the game, adding a bit of a narrative adventure element to the gameplay. While attending Hogwarts, players will take classes and learn from such beloved teachers as Hagrid, McGonagall and Snape.
According to a press release released by the game’s developer and publisher, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery will take place sometime after Harry Potter’s birth but before his enrollment in Hogwarts, so don’t expect to join him and his friend group. The game is scheduled for release sometime in 2018 for iOS and Android mobile devices.
