After a very long hiatus the Homeworld series has been revived in a big way. Last year saw the Homeworld Remastered Collection, which brought the original two games back, while updating them for more modern tastes. Now Gearbox is continuing along with this revival, releasing Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak.

“The planet is dying, but deep in the southern sands of Kharak, an anomaly has been discovered. Could Kharak’s salvation lie in the desert? Led by chief science officer Rachel S’jet, the Coalition of the Northern Kiithid sends an expedition deep within enemy-controlled territory to investigate the finding, which could forever alter the fate of humanity.”

The game is being developed by Blackbird Interactive, a group founded by former Homeworld and Company of Heroes developers. The team has released a new trailer today, which you can see below. This one dives deeper into the story behind the game, showing lots of lore behind the “Primary Anomaly” that you investigate in the game.

Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak hits PC on January 20th. Pre-orders give customers a free copy of Homeworld Remastered Collection. Those who already have the game can get a 20% discount on this new title.
