Later today players on the PlayStation 3 will get to experience mounted combat for the first time in the world of Skyrim. Patch 1.7 is due to arrive later today, Thursday August 9th. For PlayStation adventurers, Skyrim patch 1.7 will also include content that was patched into the Xbox 360 version of the game in the last go round prior to the release of Skyrim Dawnguard.

While it might not be as good as getting Dawnguard itself, patch 1.7 will include a variety of game fixes for the console, and most importantly, the ability to ride around on your mount with weapons at the ready. In Europe, players will need to wait a couple of extra days due to SCEU’s approval process according to Pete Hines’ Twitter feed.

Earlier this month Bethesda broke the news that they were unhappy with the quality of Skyrim Dawnguard on the PS3, and were going to be delaying the release of the first expansion on the console. They’ve issued no word on the release of the new content, but maybe they’ll be able to move forward with the expansion pack once patch 1.7 is away on the console.

Look for the content later today, barring anymore bad news from Bethesda.
