The Xbox One Preview Program has been around since last year, but has gotten a major push as of late due to the earlier implementation of backwards compatibility with 360 for members. As a result, we thought we would let you know how you can get in with this program.
The Xbox One Preview Program gives Xbox One owners the opportunity to try out upcoming system updates in advance. Typically members get the updates for the following month, but the latest with backwards compatibility is giving members the opportunity to try a feature that won’t be available until the Holiday Season.
I believe that back at the start, the way to get into the Xbox One Preview Program was to sign up on a website and a lucky selection of people got an invite.
Since that time, the only way is to get an actual invite from another person. This system works just about like how Gmail did after launch, by seeming more prestigious by making it an invite only club.
To invite someone, they first of all must be member’s friends list. After that, someone who is already in the Xbox One Preview Program needs to go to the Preview Dashboard app and choose invite and can quickly invite anyone on their friend list.
After the existing member invites someone, the process isn’t instantaneous, as it will take a day or two for the recipient to get a message through his or her Xbox One. At this point, that person should open the message and download the app, where they can then register.
The registration process can take up to 72 hours and really depends. At some point, likely when the console is off, it will be updated to the latest system update, which this time adds backwards compatibility.
While this program allows an early look into the future of the Xbox One, make sure to report any issues or other feedback, like the program is meant to be for.
I’m sure Xbox is willing to take all the help they can get with testing out their future updates, so feel free to share your gamertags in the comments if you want to help or are looking to get into the Xbox One Preview Program.
