If you’re expecting to see Minecraft 2 in the near future, it’s going to be a long wait for it.

IGN had a chance to speak with Mojang’s CEO Jonas Martensson at Gamescom 2015. The topic of Minecraft 2 was brought up, and it sounds like a sequel is not in the plans just yet.

Mojang has not even started any discussions of the sequel and says a new game in the franchise will not be released in the “foreseeable future“.

According to Martensson, the current state of Minecraft is still popular can will still be playable for the next several years or so. He’s not wrong as the original game continues to be a best seller on every device it has been released on.

There are still lots of other plans for the franchise as a whole. TellTale Games is working on the story mode for the original game and a movie is in development as well. There’s no shortage of content to keep fans happy until a sequel comes out.

However, it will be interesting to see what Minecraft 2 will be like if it eventually gets released. There’s no point thinking about it yet, as it sounds like it will take 5 years or more for it to be out…
