Riot Games’ League of Legends is the number one played PC game in North America and Europe. According to recently released data from Xfire, the free to play title puts up some staggering figures when it comes to how many hours players have logged.
Eclipsing Blizzard’s World of Warcraft, League of Legends players have logged in around 1.3 billion hours of gameplay this year. World of Warcraft saw declines in their numbers, while Diablo 3 picked up some of the slack for Blizzard.
These gameplay figures were calculated from July 1st, 2011 to June 30th, 2012. With double the hours of its nearest competitors, League of Legends and its free-to-play model are going to be looking awfully promising for developers looking to make a splash in gaming industry going forward. The study didn’t list how much money Riot Games was making with each player, but with so many hours logged in over the last year, they’re probably doing just fine.
