It was recently made clear that Madden NFL 25 would not be arriving on the Wii U. It’s the first time since 1991 that the storied football franchise will not arrive on a Nintendo platform. It’s seen releases on Nintendo consoles year after year, despite lackluster sales. It appears that EA is giving it a rest, and Nintendo World Report has gotten an official response from EA on the matter.
“We have a strong partnership with Nintendo and will continue to evaluate opportunities”
“We will not be releasing a Wii U version of Madden NFL in 2013. However, we have a strong partnership with Nintendo and will continue to evaluate opportunities for delivering additional Madden NFL products for Nintendo fans in the future.”
These “evaluations” from EA have been going poorly for the Wii U as of late. We’ve seen titles like Battlefield 4 come and say there will be no Wii U version, other Frostbite games that are in the works, and now Madden. The likely story is that the install base for the Wii U just isn’t high enough to warrant the ports at this point. It’s no secret that the Wii U has been struggling in the sales department, with sales of the new console trickling in in 2013.
Madden NFL 25 is scheduled to release for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in late-August.
