Mega Slowbro Confirmed for Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire with New Trailer

by Kyle Hanson

The leak of two Mega Evolutions for Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire has come to its final conclusion with the confirmation of Mega Slowbro in a new trailer. The other Mega Evolution involved in the leak was Mega Audino, who was also confirmed a few days ago. Mega Slowbro is now the tenth new Mega Evolution revealed for Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, bringing the total included in the game to 40 including the ones carried over from Pokemon X and Pokemon Y.

After Mega Evolving, this powerful Pokémon gains increased Defense and Sp. Attack stats

Mega Slowbro seems to be a major defensive force. The Youtube description says “After Mega Evolving, this powerful Pokémon gains increased Defense and Sp. Attack stats, making it a powerful addition to any team.” The trailer itself proclaims that “Mega Slowbro endures strong moves”, showing him take a Dragon Claw hit from Mega Charizard. This move has a power of 80 according to Pokemon Wiki Bulbapedia meaning it is pretty powerful, but with the boost from Mega Charizard X’s Tough Claws it becomes pretty formidable.

Mega Slowbro has caused a bit of confusion among fans due to Slowbro’s unique evolution structure. There were some, even within our own comment section, who questioned the leak because they felt that Slowbro wasn’t Slowpoke’s final evolution. There is, in fact, a third form of Slowpoke called Slowking, Slowking can be obtained by trading Slowpoke while he holds a King’s Rock.

If you notice though, I said that he is obtained by trading a Slowpoke, not a Slowbro. Slowbro is one of Slowpoke’s final evolutions, with Slowking being the other. This raises the question of whether we might be seeing a Mega Slowking revealed soon.

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire will be released on November 21st exclusively for Nintendo 3DS and 2DS. They are remakes of classic Pokemon titles Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire for the Game Boy Advance.
