Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has been out over a week and we probably won’t get actual US sales numbers until the monthly NPDs, as they are on a little different schedule and not strictly month to month. Japan handles things a little bit differently though, with their reveal of just how well it sold in its launch week in Japan.

Coming directly from Media Create, as obtained by DualShockers, we now know that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is the 5th best selling entry in its launch week in Japan.

The official numbers put the launch weeks sales for PS4 and PS3 only at 411,199, more specifically 293,652 on PS4 and 117,547 on PS3. The Xbox platform numbers were left out entirely, as they did not make the top 20 and were not even released, which means there would not be much different at all in the numbers.

These sales numbers are great news for the series, as Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes previously had the worst sales numbers for a mainline entry in the series to date. Phantom Pain has now come in 5th in the series, but it is not far behind it’s competition.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater still sits on top at 548,186, with Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (464,926), Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (456,747), and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (434,926) behind that.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’s numbers is pretty on par with these entries, with the numbers from Xbox platforms putting it a little closer to that 4th spot. While being outpaced by all mainline entries besides the first game and Ground Zeroes, this is really good sales and it will be interesting to see just how well it did in the US in its launch week as well.
