While consumers were surprised to know that the PS4 Pro has no 4K Blu-ray playback, Microsoft executives were also bewildered by the decision.
The Guardian had a chance to speak with Microsoft’s Albert Penello and he gave his opinion on the PS4 Pro not having any 4K Blu-ray playback.
He said: “I don’t want to bait any sort of console war, I have a lot of respect for what Sony does, but analytically, I think they made some interesting decisions in their product that surprised me. The lack of a 4K disc player, given Sony’s media background, was a surprise. Looking at what they’ve done historically, I don’t think many people would have predicted that“.
Further in the interview, he talked about Microsoft’s vision for the Scorpio. He admitted that it was an interesting decision on Microsoft’s part to release the Xbox One S knowing that the Scorpio will be out one year later.
However, he says Microsoft wants to release the Scorpio in 2017 mainly to give developers more time to make great games for the system. He said that their decision was not based around Sony who are going to release the PS4 Pro this November. They just wanted to wait in order to deliver the best console.
