Microsoft will reveal the new Xbox to the world next week, but the announcement event is merely to “lay the foundation” for the company’s vision for the future of gaming and entertainment. With both their official reveal and E3 so close in proximity, it’s giving Microsoft ample opportunity to steal the spotlight.

The 21st is to reveal our vision for the future of games, the future of entertainment.

According to Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg, there’s a lot of Xbox news coming down the line in the next few weeks. The company is holding back “tons of exclusives” to be revealed at E3 2013. “We’re really going to tell one story across two events,” said Greenberg in the last Major Nelson podcast. “We’re going to start on the 21st and really that’s about revealing the next Xbox platform, really our vision for the future of games, the future of entertainment. We definitely have a lot of surprises planned.”

Greenberg also talked Call of Duty: Ghosts. “I know everyone knows the Infinity Ward team is hard at work on world premiering the next Call of Duty: Ghosts, so we’re going to see what that looks like for the first time. From Greenberg’s comments, this week’s event might not feature as many games as Sony’s PS4 announcement did.

Microsoft is set to announce their next-gen console on May 21st, and their E3 Press Conference takes place on June 10th at the Galen Center ahead of E3 2013.
