Capcom’s Monster Hunter XX for Nintendo Switch leads this week’s Japanese sales according to Media Create, although the numbers are far from the norm for the hunting series. It is true that XX is an expansion on Monster Hunter X (known as Generations in the West) that was already released for 3DS, but the graphic upgrade of this version and the fact that this is the first Monster Hunter title to launch on Nintendo’s hybrid console seemed to suggest that this version could be better received. Nevertheless, the high probability of a Nintendo Switch was one of the reasons mentioned for the disappointing numbers of the original 3DS version.

Other new releases are minor games that don’t move many sales. Megadimension Neptunia VIIR has a respectable debut for a re-release that adds compatibility with PSVR. Kadokawa Games’ The Lost Child is the worst release of the week, a bad debut for the game that expands the world of El Shaddai. As for holdovers, Splatoon 2 has a big boost in sales thanks to the additional Nintendo Switch bundles sold.

Nintendo’s new console leads the hardware chart thanks to a bigger shipment compared to last week, while Nintendo 3DS and PS4 return to their usual numbers before the launch of Dragon Quest XI.
