New Xbox One S Update To Add Recordable Blu-ray Support

An app on the Xbox One S will be receiving a new update very soon that will allow it to play BD-R and BD-RE discs. There’s no word on original Xbox One consoles though.

Microsoft’s Mike Ybarra tweeted out this message: “For those asking… yes, Xbox One S will support BD-R and BD-RE. App update should happen today.

BD-R stands for Blu-ray recordable and BD-RE stands for Blu-ray recordable erasable. Basically they are discs that allow you to save and/or record your own videos and data on them. The recordable discs can only be written/used once while the recordable erasable discs can be used over and over again.

People mainly use them create home movies and things like that. This means you can watch important things in your life if you store them on a recordable Blu-ray disc.

In this day and age though, not many people use recordable Blu-ray discs. Most people use their smartphones to record video to store them onto a hard drive or upload them to YouTube.

However, it’s good to know that Microsoft are thinking about people that still like to use physical media. They’ve been advertising that the Xbox One S is the cheapest 4K Blu-ray player for several weeks now.
