Nintendo has turned off the Swap Note feature on their 3DS handheld because users were “actively misusing” the feature to send offensive material.   Nintendo has disabled the program’s ability to connect to the internet, globally.  Users of the 3DS handheld will not have to do anything with their swap note program, it has been disabled automatically, on Nintendo’s end.

Swap Note users have been notified by a notification in the 3DS system UI.  Nintendo has issued a statement

“Nintendo always wants to provide a positive experience for all consumers and limit the risk of any inappropriate activity or misuse of a service. We feel it is important on this occasion to take this action.”

It does not appear that this is a temporary measure by Nintendo.
