Bungie’s Destiny 2 for PS4 and Xbox One has made a smashing debut in North America, becoming the highest selling game of the year only in its first month according with the NPD Group. It is also the third best-selling game in the last 12 years, only below Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Battlefield 1. This way, the shooter achieves the same success as it did in the United Kingdom, where it also became the biggest launch of the year. At the same time, the game has also presented a steep decline in sales compared to the first entry, although it’s been keeping stable sales in the following weeks.
Electronic Arts’ NBA 2K18 also had a strong debut, entering the charts at number 2 with the biggest launch of a sports game in the current generation of consoles. Other new releases that made the top 10 Mario and Rabbids: Kingdom Battle at number 5, and Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite at number 6. It’s worth noting that the NPD software charts are compiled using revenue rather than sales.
As for hardware, the Super Nintendo Classic was the best selling console, followed by the Nintendo Switch. PS4 followed third, even though it lead the list based in revenue, and it’s still the best selling console in the current year.
