Overwatch Winter Wonderland Update Adds New Skins For Maps and Heroes

Blizzard will be hosting a Winter Wonderland event for Overwatch that adds new holiday themed seasonal content to the game. The Winter Wonderland event will run from December 13th through January 2nd. As far as the changes that we’ll see in the Winter Wonderland event, The Hanamura and King’s Row maps have been re-skinned with a holiday theme. Players can also earn Winter Loot Boxes with 100 new cosmetic items to unlock during the event.

Winter Loot Boxes can be earned through the playing the game or purchased. Blizzard says that each of the Winter Loot boxes “will contain at least one item from our 2016 Winter Wonderland collection — including profile icons, sprays, victory poses, emotes, highlight intros, skins, and more.” The drop rates for the Winter Loot Boxes have not been revealed, but the contents of each are random, according to the developers.

Like past events, any loot unlocked during the event will be yours to keep and use any time past January 2nd. However, once the event concludes, you won’t be able to earn these unlocks again.

Winter Wonderland also adds a new Brawl called “Mei’s Snowball Offensive.” It’s a 6v6 single-elimination game mode. The caveat for this mode is that Mei’s Blaster now fires a super-powered snowball instead of frost or icicles. You have to find snow piles to reload the weapon once it’s empty. Mei’s Ultimate has also been changed to a semi-automatic snowball launcher. Sounds like Mei’s Snowball Offensive is a good ol’ fashioned snowball fight Blizzard style.

Overwatch recently took home the top honors at The Game Awards, snatching not only Game of the Year, but Best Game Direction, Best Multiplayer, and Best Esports Game.

Overwatch’s Winter Wonderland Event is available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. You can check out the trailer for the event, below:
