Blizzard video games such as Overwatch are having server issues right now thanks to a current DDOS attack. If you want to play Blizzard games, be patient until the servers are back up.
The Blizzard Customer Service Twitter page said: “We are currently monitoring a DDOS attack against network providers which is affecting latency/connections to our games.” The last time Overwatch suffered a DDOS attack was in retaliation to players getting banned for cheating. The cheaters didn’t like getting banned so they got revenge on Blizzard.
We’re not sure why the Blizzard servers are being targeted today. It’s possible these people doing the attacks are practicing until World of Warcraft: Legion comes out next week. Usually these groups like to take popular online games down just to troll gamers worldwide.
We will update you on the situation if the attacks stop for whatever reason. As of right now though, try and be patient and play another game. It appears lots of Blizzard games are having trouble at the moment. If you go to the down detector website, you can see a lot of people are reporting problems with the servers. This is the problem with online games like Overwatch because they become unplayable when things like this happen.
Update: Blizzard announced on Twitter: “The technical issues we were experiencing earlier have been resolved. Apologies for the inconvenience!“. However, keep following the Twitter page for more updates as some people are having issues with other things such as in-game shops and more.
