In case you missed it, Pokemon Company has recently released their latest Pokemon spin-off, Great Detective Pikachu: The Birth of a New Duo. The game stars a coffee drinking, crime solving Pikachu and was release for 3DS February 3rd in Japan. Though the game hasn’t even been slotted for a western release, fans are already coming together to suggest who voices the English version of Pikachu.
A petition on Change.org began last week to cast actor Danny DeVito as Detective Pikachu. As of now, the petition has reached a little over 44,000 supporters out of the 50,000 needed for it to pass. The description reads, “There are a number of us that feel as though Danny DeVito would be a prime fit for the voice acting role of the Detective Pikachu. We want to make this happen.”
DeVito is no stranger to voice acting serious fictional characters. His roles In Hercules, Space Jam and The Lorax all attest to his ability to portray adorable, street-smart creatures. Of course even if the petition succeeds, there is no guarantee that Nintendo of America or even DeVito himself will honor it. Even so, it warms my heart to know that so many others share my passion to make Danny DePikachu a reality.
