There was some exciting news earlier this week that Phantasy Star Online 2 is coming to the PS4. Now fans are disappointed again as a Western version is not being planned.
Kotaku contacted Sega to know if Phantasy Star Online 2 would be released outside of Japan. Sadly Sega confirmed the game is staying as a Japan exclusive.
Western versions of the game for PS Vita and PC are still missing in action too. Even though Sega said localized PS Vita and PC versions of the game will be made, they never updated us on the situation.
It’s weird Sega chooses not to localize a game that potentially could earn them more money by releasing it in North America and Europe. Phantasy Star Online 2 is part of a popular franchise so it doesn’t have a niche market.
Many Japanese developers have been localizing their games as the Japan market for PC and console gaming has decreased over the years. It’s surprising Sega doesn’t have any plans to increase its audience by localizing a game like Phantasy Star Online 2. Not to mention the PS4 is the best selling console at the moment.
Are you sad to know the game is unlikely to be released outside of Japan?
