Microsoft has had a problem this generation and its been in the lack of exclusives for the Xbox One.  It’s not entirely in the lack of exclusives for the console, but in their ability to create new IP that draw people to the console.  They’ve relied on their tried and true franchises for the majority of the generation, releasing multiple titles in the Halo, Forza, and Gears of War franchises.  They’ve announced some interesting things along the way, and many have either floundered at launch or been outright cancelled.

‘We need to invest more and give studios time to create’

Phil Spencer is fairly open in communicating with fans via social media.  You’ll often find the executive chatting with Xbox fans on Twitter, and most recently, he got into a conversation regarding new games.  What started as a question regarding a new Alan Wake game, turned into Spencer revealing what his strategic thoughts were in terms of bringing more exclusives to the console.

Spencer says, that Microsoft needs to “Invest more, invest in teams, empower them to create deep worlds with interesting stories and characters and give them time.”

Unfortunately, time is not something that Xbox has a lot of.  At least in the eyes of their biggest fans they don’t.  They recently released the Xbox One X without an exclusive that really takes advantage of the console’s power.

Perhaps that’s yet to come.  We’ll soon be hearing a lot more about the future of Xbox at E3 2018.  Their press conference is slated for Sunday, June 10th and hopefully they’ve got something big to get Xbox One owners excited about the future.
