The Esteemed Shigeru Miyamoto, revealed that despite middling sales of Pikmin 3, the next title in the franchise has been in development for quite some time and is near completion. In an interview with Eurogamer in July, Miyamoto detailed that the team had been working on the next entry for some time.
“We can confirm that Pikmin 4 is in development but that is all we can confirm at present. It’s actually very close to completion. Pikmin teams are always working on the next one.”
Pikmin 3 released in 2013 and sold over 1 million copies while receiving positive reviews, and the character Olimar appeared in the new Super Smash Bros. on the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. Miyamoto gave no time table for the release of Pikmin 4 or if it will release on the Wii U or the new in development console code-named the NX.
I enjoyed all of the Pikmin games, so its glad to hear they haven’t given up on the franchise and are already moving ahead. Its surprising to see how far the development for Pikmin 4 has progressed, so it won’t be surprising if an announcement for the title is imminent. With a new console on the horizon it will be interesting to see what Nintendo’s plans are for the release.
