If you want to buy a PlayStation VR device later this year, you will be happy to know that the device’s games will be compatible with the DualShock 4 controller.
Here’s a statement Sony gave to Eurogamer: “All PlayStation VR titles will support DualShock 4 controllers. However some game experiences will be enhanced with the use of peripherals such as Move or the recently announced Aim controller. Images being shown of PSVR packaging on some websites are early mock ups and not representative of the finished packaging.”
This means you don’t have to scramble buying lots of PlayStation Move controllers if you don’t have any of them for a specific game title. The PlayStation Move controllers will just enhance the experience.
As stated above, you can also use the Aim controller in order to make it feel like you are firing a gun. If you don’t like that sort of thing, it’s good to know a normal controller can be used.
The only reason Sony released this statement is because some early box-art showed that you may require a PlayStation Move controller to play games such as Hustle Kings and PlayStation VR Worlds. All you truly need is a PlayStation Camera and a PlayStation VR.
Update: Sony backtracked on the statement it gave out to Eurogamer earlier this week. Now Sony says that “nearly all” games will be compatible with the DualShock 4 controller. This means some games will require the Move controller for you to play them.
