Pokemon Go Update 1.33.1 and 0.63.1 are heading out now on iPhone and Android respectively. These are some of the popular mobile game’s smallest updates yet, not even listing the traditional “minor text fixes” in the official patch notes from Niantic. Still, every Pokemon Go update is important in its own way, so let’s dive into the patch notes and then start with the speculating.
Here is what Pokemon Go Update 1.33.1 and 0.63.1 changes according to Niantic: “Added Brazilian Portuguese language support. Tapping on a medal will now show your progress toward the next medal tier.”
Not much, right? Actually, aside from the medal addition it’s kind of useless unless you speak Brazilian Portuguese. However, these updates often contain changes that we only find out about much later. Unfortunately no one has been able to do a deep dive into the code yet, as the update hasn’t actually started hitting devices just yet. Once they do we can give a more thorough rundown though, so check back soon for that.
In the meantime there are actually a lot of things we can assume will be changed in the background with this new patch. For one, there is still only a single shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Go. Magikarp rolled out without much notice or fanfare, and players have been waiting to see more changes on this front in coming updates. Could these patches add in some new shiny Pokemon, to be activated at some later date?
There is also a lot of speculation around upcoming Pokemon Go events, especially during the Summer. Niantic has promised big things, and players are mostly taking that to mean we might finally see some Legendary Pokemon make their way into the game. It will be interesting to see if these updates make any surreptitious changes involving Legendary Pokemon.
