Pokken Tournament Could Be Headed to Nintendo Switch

A Japanese retailer could have spoiled one of the coming surprise releases for Nintendo Switch: a remastered version of Wii U’s Pokken Tournament. The information has got out through the popular Sinobi blog, which posts lists of upcoming videogame releases. In one of the latest posts, which has been edited since, it listed an arcade stick controller coming for Nintendo Switch, which specified Pokken Tournament as one of the compatible titles.

Developed by Bandai Namco, Pokken Tournament proposed to transform the classic Pokemon series into a 3D fighting game in the style of Tekken. At the time of its launch a year ago it was one of the most interesting exclusive releases for Wii U. And even though it was a good game, we pointed out in our review that the title could be improved through the inclusion of more characters and stages.

A remastered edition for Nintendo Switch could improve on some of these shortcomings, since the version for arcade machines received a bigger roster of fighters that Bandai Namco never released on its console counterpart.

And despite the fact of releasing on a platform with a limited userbase as Wii U, the game ended up getting some following in competitive circles, as it was normal to see it included among the game selection of professional fighting competitions. Considering that and the proven success of other Wii U ports like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, it seems like Bandai Namco would be making a good decision by re-releasing its Pokemon fighting game.

Let us hope that Bandai Namco gets to confirm the release during the upcoming E3 in two weeks.
