Microsoft is doing a little Spring cleaning come May 16th with their digital Xbox One backwards compatability offerings.  Some of the most popular titles in the ever-growing 275+ game catalog will be going on sale starting next week.

Some of the most popular ones, like Black Ops 2, Red Dead Redemption, Skate 3, Grand Theft Auto IV, and others will see steep discounts to the normal prices.  Larry Hyrb says that some titles will be as much as 75% off during the promotion.

Specific details as to what games are going to cost how much during the promotion wasn’t given, but if you were waiting on a time to snag any of these digital classics next week may be the time to do so.

Alternatively, a lot of these oldies but goodies are always on sale from places who sell pre-owned physical versions.  While the backwards compatibility feature has likely kept prices artificially high at re-sellers like Gamestop, places like Ebay, Amazon, and even Craigslist will have great deals on lots of older discs or single titles.

We’ll have to wait and see just how sweet the deals are next week during this “Super Sale.”  Popular titles like Red Dead Redemption (29.99), Black Ops 2 ($49.99), Skate 3 (19.99), and GTA IV ($19.99) are still pretty expensive considering how ago they’ve released.  Sweet jesus, Activision is still asking $49.99 for Black Ops 2?

In the last year since announcing Backwards Compatibility for the Xbox One, Microsoft has made good on the promise of building out the catalog of the library.  The Backwards Compatibility list has grown considerably month after month for the last year, it’s been reported that some games even run better on the platform.  The move certainly garnered some goodwill for Microsoft and the Xbox brand, hopefully other platform holders follow suit so that game collections can continue to live on past a single console cycle.
