The God of War series has always had a robust progression system as you upgrade the abilities of Kratos. The progression system in the new PS4 game will be a lot different than before.
Digital Trends interviewed Cory Balrog who is the game director for God Of War PS4. He confirmed that the game will have an all-new progression system. It will cater to how you play the game.
He said: “We are definitely changing the progression completely. Your relationship with Kratos and the relationship with his son, and how you kind of outfit and sort of tailor them for your play style…you can really feel like, “Okay, this is my take on the game.”
He said the team wanted to alter the progression system so that it encourages you to play the game more than one time. It will entice people to explore to see new things.
Balrog also confirmed that the new game is not fully open-world. It’s less linear than the previous games as they have opened up the areas to make them more expansive. It could be similar to the level design of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
There’s no release date set for God of War PS4 but it is expected to be out sometime in 2017. It’s likely it will be out in Fall 2017 in order to maximize its sales.
