Sales of the PS4 were really healthy in Australia in 2015. The console managed to outsell its competitors by a healthy margin.

As reported by VG24/7, NPD Australia reported on the PS4 sales for 2015 and they are very good. The console was the best selling one in 2015 accounting for over 59 percent of the market share.

NPD Australia notes that the PS4 console outsold the “its closest competitor by 82% in value and 84% in units“. They must be referring to the Xbox One as the close competitor. Software sales for the console were also very good as 49 percent of all sales were for the PS4 platform.

Christmas 2015 and December 2015 smashed performance records set in the past. A lot of Australian shoppers were buying PlayStation consoles and games during the week leading up to Christmas.

The popularity of the PS4 is not just tied to Australia as it’s currently the best selling console worldwide. Sony has sold close to 36 million units of the console so far, although this number could have grown over the last few weeks.

Microsoft has not updated its Xbox One sales figures for a long time, but estimates are roughly around the 18 to 20 million unit mark. The Wii U is a distant third selling just over 12 million units worldwide thus far.
