A new AAA IP will be launching this September in the form of Keiji Inafune’s ReCore, though the game surprisingly won’t be launching at the standard $60 price point. The game will retail for $40 at launch, and now we’re getting a little more information regarding why they went that route.

Head of Xbox Games Marketing, Aaron Greenberg, said the following about the decision:

“We wanted there to be no barriers. We wanted to be able to give you a great triple-A title that gives you $60 of value but if you aren’t sure, not let that be the barrier of a trade-off. That’s why we priced it at $40. We hope that will increase its chances of having success as a new IP.”

He goes on to say that “With new IP like that, launch timing matters a lot. So that’s why you’re seeing us launch it as our first title of the season, getting it out early. The second thing is it doesn’t have an existing base of fans. So we have to build that fan base, earn their trust [and] earn their dollar.”

ReCore is set to launch for Xbox One and PC on September 13th. We enjoyed the game a lot when we tried it out at E3, and you can check out our thoughts on it by clicking right here.
