Let’s get this out of the way up front. Rockstar Games has yet to announce that a next-generation version of GTA V is in the works. Nor has the company even gotten around to announcing a PC version of the game, so let’s take this next news item with a huge helping of salt.
A Danish retailer has listed an Xbox One version of Grand Theft Auto V on their products pages for pre-order, claiming that an “Expected release will be announced later”. As for the timing of this announcement, “We are waiting for the announcement of the release date, you can pre-order now, we will send the goods as soon as it comes,” says the retail listing.
Does Cool Shop know something that other retailers don’t? Probably not, but there have been numerous sources speculating that next-gen and PC versions of GTA V are to be announced shortly. Namely it’s the analysts who believe that Take Two would do well to invest in the development of the game for new machines.
We’ll have to wait and see if this was just a publicity stunt by Cool Shop, or genuine foresight. As for now, the only platforms that GTA V is confirmed to arrive on are the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with a confirmed launch date of September 17th, 2013.
