Originally expected to launch in late March, Aliens Colonial Marines will not be arriving on the Wii U. SEGA has confirmed today that the definitive version of the shooter is no longer in development. No color was provided as to the reasons why the game had been scrapped, but outlook for the title began to dim after it released on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC to widespread criticism.
The cancellation was reported earlier this year, but SEGA refused to comment at the time. It’s pretty obvious that the game had a lot going against it. The poor reception on other platforms, an install base for the Wii U that has not grown much in 2013, SEGA obviously didn’t see the project as financially viable.
Aliens: Colonial Marines was one of the big games that had been tied to the Wii U since the console was announced. According to our review of Aliens Colonial Marines you aren’t missing much, though the GamePad features did sound cool at the very least.
