Shao Kahn Brings the Hammer Down in Mortal Kombat 11

We’re less than a week away from Mortal Kombat 11, and while we already know who’s going to be in the game, this hasn’t stopped NetherRealm from showing off one of the most famous, or infamous fighter in the series. Of course we’re talking about the real Emperor of Outworld, Shao Kahn, and with his trademark hammer he’s ready to smash his opponents into the ground, literally. We already knew that Kahn would be playable in the game as a pre-order incentive, but this is the first time that we get to see him in action.

Speaking of the hammer, it is now Shao Kahns main focus of attack, as all of his combos utilize the weapon in one form or another. In addition, Kahn can summon a spear to change his offense from a slow based one to quick and frenetic, essentially making him a dual threat. Kahn doesn’t have any flashy special abilities, and quite frankly he doesn’t need them. He’s so strong that all he needs is his hammer and his indomitable demeanor to destroy his opponent.

This is no more evident than his Fatality. As we stated earlier, he doesn’t have a flashy move set, and this applies to his Fatality, but when Kahn has his hammer, flashy doesn’t mean anything. Kahn pummels his opponents head with the hammer twice making them crouch over in pain. Kahn then swings his hammer directly into the top of their head, which has so much impact that it flings their head through their entire body and out of their back! If that doesn’t show true domination then we don’t know what will.

We understand that Kahn is being treated as a boss character, and to his credit he should be as he is the original true villain of the series as well as the final boss for most of the Mortal Kombat titles. However, with this much at his disposal, and the fact that he’s a playable fighter, he will more than likely be a little overpowered. Don’t be surprised if you see a lot of online match players pick him first.

Mortal Kombat 11 launches April 23 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. We were able to participate in the Online Beta and gave our impressions which you can check out here. You can also check out Shao Kahns gameplay trailer here:
