Atlus introduced a new Shin Megami Tensei game during last night’s Nintendo Switch presentation. The title has been presented as the first HD project in the main series, built using Unreal Engine 4. While the short trailer doesn’t give many details, it’s enough to give us an idea as to what to expect.
The game has been announced as part of the projects that celebrate the 25th anniversary of the franchise this year. While Atlus is only referring to it “Shin Megami Tensei,” there are signs that point to it being actually the fifth entry in the series: Early this week, the company launched a special website presenting the logo of the Anniversary event. The picture had the form of a square in which we could read references to each of the previous four games and then the word “NEXT“.
It is also worth noticing that while the title has been announced during the Nintendo Switch presentation, Atlus is only referring to it as an “HD Project” and not as an exclusive game, fueling the rumors that it could also be released on PlayStation 4. That is not the case of another project related to the series, whose only detail annnounced so far is that it will be released specifically for Nintendo 3DS.
