Sony has just announced that they are forming a new company that will focus entirely on creating iOS and Android games. The company is called ForwardWorks, and for the time being will focus on releasing content for Japanese and Asian markets before expanding to other regions.
ForwardWorks will officially launch on April 1st, which marks the beginning of the financial year in Japan. The company will be taking the many Sony IPs and create experiences for mobile users to “casually enjoy full-fledged game titles.”
This coincides with the one year anniversary of Sony’s closure of PlayStation Mobile, which was available for PS-certified tablets, phones and the PlayStation Vita. It was a cross-platform game service that contained both indie and mainstream titles for download.
Nintendo recently released their first mobile app, Miitomo, which immediately became a massive hit in Japan and currently sits at the top of iOS charts. It’s expected to launch in the US later this year.
