Cutout animation combined with top-of-the-line rendering software not only gives South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker the advantage of being able to produce an entire episode within just a few days, it also allows them to translate that animation into a graphics engine with little to no disparity.
The screenshots below are actually not from Stone and Parker’s latest South Park episode. They’re from THQ and Obsidian’s South Park: The Stick of Truth set to release March 5, 2013 for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. The game will allow players to enter the parody-fueled world of South Park and interact with the series’ most popular characters. South Park: The Stick of Truth will set players off on “an epic quest to become… cool.”
As you can see from one of the screenshots below, Parker and Stone have decided to include recurrent South Park character, Mr. Kim, the proprietor of City Wok, though Mr. Kim’s heavy Asian accent makes his pronunciation of his restaurant’s name sound like, well, an expletive. I’m sure you can infer what I’m talking about. Mr. Kim’s costume looks to be similar to the one he wore when he was encouraged to build a Great Wall around South Park and fought off invading Mongolian forces.
The kids’ costumes have also appeared within the South Park universe previously, as they are the same ones featured in the episode, The Return of the Fellowship of the Ring to the Two Towers. As the kids are role-playing Lord of the Rings, they are sent on a very important quest to bring the movie to Butters’ house. Unbeknownst to them however, Stan’s dad accidentally put the wrong tape in the Lord of the Rings box, which turns out to be the most hardcore porno ever produced.
