Sonic the Hedgehog was once on top of the gaming world alongside other icons like Mario, but over the last decade his star has dimmed with mostly disappointing outings. To celebrate the 20th anniversary, we got the very fun Sonic Generations and after much teasing, it sounds like we finally might get the reveal of something 25th anniversary related soon.
The SXSW convention is being held in a week and a half and will be having a special panel dedicated to Sonic the Hedgehog, which will host Sonic’s original creator, as well as the current voice of Sonic and some others.
This panel would seem to be a great spot to reveal something about the 25th anniversary celebration, and that’s just what it sounds like will be happening according to the description of the panel from the SXSW website.
“25 years had to go fast, and here we are today wondering where it all went. Join the original creator of Sonic the Hedgehog, along with the amazing production heads responsible for bringing the franchise to life, for an in-depth analysis of where Sonic came from and where he’s heading going forward. A special reveal will be made as part of the celebration for this anniversary milestone.”
The most intriguing part is obviously the last sentence, with the mention of a “special reveal.” Hopefully this is actually one of the games that have been rumored over the last few months, but it could also turn out to be something minor.
Other teases in the past have ended up being nothing, but you’d think they have to have something up their sleeves for a huge milestone like this for Sonic. All we can do at this point is wait and hope Sega can deliver with this reveal.
