If you are playing Splatoon online today, you might be having trouble connecting to the servers. For some reason, they are down at the moment.
The official Nintendo website posted: “Due to emergency maintenance, some online services are unavailable. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience.”
The Splatoon online servers have been down since “Friday, January 22, 2016 9:56 PM Pacific Time“. The emergency maintenance is still going and they are not finished with it yet. There is no indication on how long it is going to take.
Nobody knows why the emergency maintenance is being done now, but it has annoyed some owners of the game. This is because it is the weekend now when most gamers have enough free time to enjoy themselves.
Nonetheless, maintenance is usually scheduled when people are not playing so much. However, today is an emergency maintenance on the game’s servers so it appears it is important and had to be done ASAP.
We will update this post to let you know when the Splatoon servers are up and running again. For now, just wait it out or play another Wii U game if you want to play online with other people.
Update: Servers are back up and running again. It was down for around 4 hours due to the maintenance.
