Star Wars Battlefront is now free as part of the EA and Origin Access Vault. The game can be downloaded and played at no additional charge for any member of EA Access on Xbox One, and Origin Access on PC. The timing couldn’t be better, with Star Wars: Rogue One hitting theaters this Friday alongside some special DLC for the game.

Star Wars Battlefront has had a bit of a checkered past, with the game launching to solid review scores, but a lingering doubt about the game’s staying power. A limited selection of maps and gamemodes combined with a total lack of a single player campaign to lead many players to abandon the title shortly after release. EA and DICE have since added a lot of content to the experience, while promising that Star Wars Battlefront 2 would feature a campaign, but the damage was done in a lot of ways.

The result of this damage was a lower playerbase than a massive shooter like this requires. Perhaps this move to put Star Wars Battlefront into the Vault will help fix this, and bring a lot of new and returning players to the game.

The EA and Origin Access Vault has become a major selling point for EA’s subscription service. Games never leave the service, so the list of available titles has done nothing but grow over the last couple of years. Big games like Titanfall, Simcity, and Mass Effect have been added, allowing players to play them at no additional charge. Along with this, EA and Origin Access offer members discounts on digital games and early access to most big EA releases.

So far, the service has seemed to be a hit with many praising its overall value on Xbox One and PC. Have you tried out EA Access or Origin Access? Let us know what you thought in the comments below.
