The 300 lucky Steam users who have signed up for a chance to receive beta versions of the Steam Machine and the Steam Controller will be getting theirs very soon. An announcement on the official Steam Community group claims the hardware is set to ship this Friday.
How do you know if you’re one of them? Valve will have notified you today if you were eligible, as well as providing a spiffy badge to proudly show off on your Steam profile page. If you did not receive such a notification, then you’re welcome to sulk in a corner here with the rest of us.
The announcement post also notes that Valve have had to make the difficult decision not to ship outside of the United States, due to “regulatory hurdles”. Vying for the inclusion of other countries would lead to their inability to gather and incorporate feedback into the hardware by 2014.
Finally, SteamOS will be made available when the prototypes are sent out, downloadable by individuals and commercial entities alike.
