Capcom is learning to not anger fans because Street Fighter 5 will not have any sort of on-disc DLC.
Gamer Revolution spoke to the game’s producer, Mike Dahlgren, during the Tokyo Game Show 2015. The site asked him if the game will have any on-disc DLC.
Dahlgren answered: “There will not be on-disc DLC, for sure“. This is really good news for Street Fighter fans and gamers alike. The worst type of DLC is the one that is stored on the disc itself.
A reason this question was raised in the first place was because Street Fighter X Tekken featured on-disc DLC. A large number of fighters were locked behind a paywall even though their data was inside of the disc already. This caused a huge stir and many people were rightfully outraged by it.
Capcom is learning from its past self as Street Fighter 5 will not be as anti-consumer so to speak. Capcom previously stated that future fighters will be unlockable if you play the game long enough. You don’t have to pay for DLC if you don’t want to.
Street Fighter 5 releases in early 2016 for the PS4 and PC platforms.
