Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 4.0 Update Arrives Today With Dragon Quest Hero

While the announcement of Banjo-Kazooie coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate may have stolen its thunder at E3, the reveal of the Dragon Quest Hero coming to the game as the next DLC character was also pretty monumental as well. It was revealed at that time that Hero would be coming to the game sometime during the summer and now he is releasing today alongside the latest update to the game as well.

It was announced just the other day that Masahiro Sakurai would have a video presentation showing off Hero in the game that would be taking place this morning. This video has now been released and mostly focuses on showing off Hero’s moveset and his alternate costumes based on different Dragon Quest games, while also revealing that he will be releasing today, July 30.

In addition to the release of Hero, Sakurai also revealed a number of new Mii Costumes being added based on the Dragon Quest franchise, including a Slime hat. These will all cost $0.75 each and are not included with the Fighter Pass.

This was not the only information Sakurai had for us though, as he also revealed that Update 4.0 for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was also releasing today alongside Hero and the new Mii Costumes. This update is a free update for the game that adds a few changes to existing modes, as well as returning a few requested online features from previous entries.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s Adventure Mode known as World of Light has now received a Very Easy difficulty level with this update, which should help you get past some of the tougher Spirits if you are having any trouble.

The new update also brings a change to the gameplay a bit, as now there is a meter associated with the Final Smash. This prevents players from holding onto the Final Smash without using it for awhile, as they will lose the Final Smash entirely if they do not use it before the meter is depleted.

Spectate Mode and Online Tournament modes are two new additions to online that people have been asking for since the launch of the game, which should make some people very happy. Some of the most requested features like Break the Targets or Home Run Contest are still missing, but the game is gradually adding what fans want it appears.

As of the time of this writing, the Update 4.0 and Hero are not available for download quite yet in the US. The release of Joker definitely caused some issues with servers after so many were trying to download at once, so perhaps they are going to try a staggered release across regions. Keep an eye out today and hopefully the update will be available sooner rather than later.
