Target slashes price of Wii U by twenty percent

If you’re in the market for a Wii U, apparently Target is now selling the troubled console at a discount.  The retailer has marked down the 8GB Wii U Basic Set from $299 to $239, a hefty discount for the Wii U starter kit.  This bundle is a bare bones offering from Nintendo, but comes equipped with everything you need to get started as a Wii U owner.

Nintendo has yet to officially cut prices on the Wii U across the board.   Though with the sales sluggishness in 2013, many are anticipating that they will.  If you’ll recall the launch of the Nintendo 3DS, price cutting measures early on in the product’s life-cycle completely turned around the fortunes of the glasses-free 3D handheld, which is now dominating in sales across the globe.

Can Nintendo pull the same tricks with the Wii U?  It’s hard to tell.  Their loyal fanbase is going to start questioning buying their products at launch, if six months later they start dropping like clockwork.  The Wii U basic set does come with caveats.  The 8GB system is definitely playable, but if you plan on saving anything on the console, you’ll definitely need a memory upgrade in the future.

There’s no telling how long this sale will continue at Target, but 20% off is hard to beat if you’re in the market for a Wii U.
