Techland’s action hack & slash game HellRaid which essentially looked like Dead Island with a Medieval theme. It seems as though today they have put the game to bed and have announced it will not be this year as planned.

Originally planned to release this year on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, HellRaid has been ‘put on hold’ according to the developers over at Techland who released a statement this morning on their official website. The statement goes on to say that the title did not meet the developers expectations and they currently wish to focus their efforts on expanding the Dying Light franchise which released back in January 2015. Their full statement is below.

Dear Hellraid fans,

We would like to officially announce that our dark fantasy FPP game Hellraid will not be released this year as previously planned, and the development of the game has been put on hold.

In the recent months we conducted an internal analysis and came to the conclusion that Hellraid, in its current shape and form, is not meeting our own expectations for this project. Therefore, we decided the best course of action would be to send it back to the drawing board and invent our dark fantasy title anew.

In the meantime, we will consolidate our development resources and focus on further expansion of our Dying Light franchise.

We wish to thank all our fans for your support – you’re the best!

Although the developers did not specifically use the word ‘Cancelled’ it seems that it may be at this point unless they come up with a plan or get a publisher behind them for it. Either way, this means more time to focus on Dying Light related content for the developer.
