The Tetris Movie will now be a Trilogy

In case you didn’t already know, Tetris is being made into a movie. This was already pretty surprising, considering the venerable puzzle game has no story or plot of any kind. What’s even more surprising is today’s news that Tetris will actually be made into a full blown scifi trilogy, with the upcoming film being just the first part of a much broader story.

The news comes via Empire who spoke with the film’s producer, Larry Kasanoff. “That’s correct,”Kasanoff said in regards to the rumors of it being a trilogy, “and purely because the story we conceived is so big. This isn’t us splitting the last one of our eight movies in two to wring blood out of the stone. It’s just a big story.”

Just what that story might be is anyone’s guess at this point. The film will obviously be taking some liberties with the license, as the Tetris games don’t really feature any sort of characters of any kind.  “We’re not going to have blocks with feet running around the movie,” Kasanoff explianed, “but it’s great that people think so. It sets the bar rather low!”

The only thing we do know at this point is that the film will be science fiction in nature. Anything beyond that is all speculation and guesswork. However, learning that this will end up being a trilogy should expand that speculation significantly. However, the guessers have a poor track record so far with Kasanoff saying  “No-one has come remotely close to figuring out what we’re doing.”

Tetris the movie is currently in pre-production with casting already underway. There is no set release date yet.
