In Nippon Ichi Software’s The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince, players are invited to follow the story of two hapless individuals: a prince and a “princess.” It’s got all the makings of a classic “lost in the woods” fairy tale, dramatic irony included. You see, unbeknownst to the prince, this “princess” has a secret.  Players do know this secret though, and its something that takes the sweet scene above and transforms it into something funny.

It’s odd to see a princess get so excited over a piece of raw meat, but what if she’s not a princess at all? What if she’s actually something else? In the case of The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince, this “princess” is actually a wolf. She’s the one who accidentally blinded the prince and is trying to take him to the witch of the forest in order to get his eyes healed.

Of course, common sense says it would be unwise to trust a strange wolf, so she told him she’s a princess. Over the course of this 2D side-scrolling adventure game, players must help this lying wolf guide the prince through these dangerous woods and maybe help her maintain the charade. It should be simple enough, but maintaining this lie is going to prove tricky if our “princess” keeps trying to feed him raw meat.

The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince launches for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on February 12.
