Over the years we’ve grown quite familiar with scaling the many buildings in the Assassin’s Creed series to survey a wide variety of historical locales. Assassin’s Creed: Revelations is definitely not bucking this trend, but will continue it, with a blend of old and new to tie up the first three games of the franchise. Broken down in a fashion that is similar to its predecessors, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations will have you visiting distinct new periodic specific locations.

Cappadocia is probably the most intriguing of the new locations found in Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. This city is said to have two parts. It’s got an above ground region that will probably be similar to what we’ve grown accustomed to from AC, and then it has a secret underground portion that is a Templar stronghold housing the sworn enemies of Ezio’s Assassin faction. The underground Templar stronghold is said to have caverns, caves, and tunnels to explore while staying low profile in this enemy territory.

Constantinople is the primary setting for Assassin’s Creed: Revelations.  As explained by Alexandre Amanico, “Constantinople is a massive city.  It actually spans two continents, on one side is Europe, and other Asia.  This is the center of the known world at that time.  The spice trading and all that related trade happened through Constantinople.  It was one of the main reasons that Europeans tried to go around Africa, because Constantinople was this great hub controlled by the Ottomans.  And essentially, everything needed to go through the city.”  In Revelations, the city is split into four parts: Constantin, Beyazid, Imperial, and Galata.  With each section having its own distinct visual style.

Masyaf if you remember was featured as the starting point of the franchise.  Altair begins his journey in Masyaf in the original Assassin’s Creed.  Ezio will return to the Assassin stronghold in search of knowledge of his ancestors, and the Order of the Assassins.  The game is said to begin, and end in Masyaf, with Ezio pulling together pieces of the puzzle to unlock the secrets of the Assassins.

There are also rumored to be new multiplayer locations featured in Assassin’s Creed: Revelations which tie into the over-arching storyline of Ezio, and the period.  How Desmond will play into these events has yet to be revealed.  Will there be modern day periods to explore as well, as in AC: Brotherhood?  Probably so, but nothing has been announced at this time.

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations will spring into action this fall.
