The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt hits digital and retail stores tomorrow, May 19th. With just one day left before the game becomes available to the world, developer CD Projekt Red has released new pre-order sales figures, as well as the official launch trailer. It looks like new and old fans alike have jumped on the game in massive numbers, with The Witcher 3 pre-orders topping out at over 1.5 million copies. This comes only a week after reports surfaced that the game had hit over a million pre-orders, showing that a third of pre-orders totaling 500,000 units came in just the last week before launch.
These numbers would be fantastic for any game, but for a series that has largely built itself on positive critical and consumer response, it is extraordinary. The Witcher franchise began in 2007 as a PC exclusive RPG. Coming from a Polish developer and based on the book series Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, the franchise has always had a strong connection to its native country, but has expanded to become a worldwide phenomenon. With The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt closing out the story of Geralt of Rivia there is a chance the series could be finishing up, but with a response like this it is most likely CD Projekt Red will continue the world of The Witcher in many other ways.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt launches tomorrow for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Above you will find the newly released launch trailer.
