While some upcoming video games are opting to use Unreal Engine 4, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 is using Unreal Engine 3.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5’s producer, Dan Verano, revealed this to Game Informer. He said the “title uses Unreal Engine 3“. This is the same game engine that powered Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD three years ago. However, Robomodo has several improvements to the engine. They note the game looks far cleaner than the previous game. The game is also going to have a much “higher frame count“.

It’s good news that they plan to use a higher frame rate count for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5. Many people would like the game to be in 1080p and 60fps. Since the new game isn’t going to be open-world, this is achievable.

Another thing noted in the new preview is that customization will be a huge part of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5. There will be some recognizable faces and even animals that you can create as your own skater. Many licensed gear will also be included too. You can also create your own skate park and share them with the online community. Tony Hawk himself plans to create parks based on real life locations and share them in the game.
